Easter Series

Can you explain this? Why did Jesus leave heaven and come live on earth? If God is all powerful, why didn't he just forgive us of our sins instead of sending Jesus to die on the cross? What is the significance of the resurrection? Why did God choose the way of salvation? Could you Explain this to me? This series provides simple but revealing answers that bring a new perspective to the Christian faith. Four-part series.

Explain: His Life
Explain: His Death
Explain: His Resurrection
Explain: His Reasoning

What are you doing as a series during this season?

New Series - Spiritual Folklore

Have you ever had that shocking experience where you suddenly realize that something you were taught as a child or grew up believing was totally false? It is amazing how we easily will accept some things as "fact" just because someone famous said it or someone we trusted believed it. In this series we will put some common spiritual beliefs to the test to find out what is FACT and what is just FOLKLORE.

Myth #1- All Good Ideas are God Ideas
Myth #2 - God Wants You Happy
Myth #3 - I've Got All The Time In The World
Myth #4 - God Carries A Big Club
Myth #5 - There Are Many Ways to God
Myth #6 - Christmas Is All About What's Under The Tree
Myth #7 - There Is No After Life
Myth #8 - Hell's No Big Deal

Rescue Me... Fall Series

We came up with this series as our fall experience. It is a way for us to connect with the community and deal with the felt needs they are having. Each week we are honoring one branch of our first responder teams in the area and are bringing them in to be interviewed. The last week we are sponsoring a blood drive with the Red Cross. Our Theatre we meet in liked that idea.
This is the front of what we sent our to 23,000 people in our area. I am excited to see the response.
All of us need RESCUING at times…
be it in our personal lives, our family, our career or our world. High Point Church invites you for this original series that will explore what it truly means to be rescued. Through the eyes of our local first responders (Paramedics, Police, Fire, Red Cross) we’ll see how God can rescue us and use us to rescue our world.

October 7 / Rescue Me
October 14 / Domestic Disturbance
October 21 / Burned Out
October 28* / Disaster Relief
*Red Cross blood drive following service.

Traveling Light

In the current series we're in...The Journey Begins...today I spoke about "traveling light".
The main idea or thesis was that in this journey we need to travel light...allowing God to remove the baggage and attachments in our life.

One very cool quote I came across that I wanted to share with you all was from A.W. Tozer:
“God may allow His servant to succeed when He has disciplined him to a point where he does not need to succeed to be happy. The man who is elated by success and is cast down by failure is still a carnal man. At best his fruit will have a worm in it.”

This quote, in my opinion, is great for church planters. I think it can be very easy for us, at times, to allow our mood and happiness to be based on the number of people in attendance on a given Sunday. This quote puts it all into perspective doesn't it?!

Travel Light...And Enjoy The Journey.

Not So Easy

I love hearing about message series that other pastors are doing. It always helps to get the creative juices flowing. We just finished up a series called Not So Easy. We have all seen the commercials for Staples. Just press the easy button, and all of your problems will disappear. Wouldn’t it be great if that’s how life was? Just push a button and everything would be fine. All your marriage problems, financial struggles, or relational conflicts would be solved, kind of like magic. The fact is life doesn't work that way. There is no easy button. Sometimes you have to face some things that are simply not so easy. In this series we looked at the life of Joseph and all of the struggles that he faced. We broke his life into 4 areas that were not so easy.

Genesis 37 “Dreams are Not So easy”
Genesis 39 “Temptation Is Not So Easy”
Genesis 40 “Waiting Is Not So Easy,
Genesis 45 “Forgiveness Is Not So Easy”

I would love to hear from some of you as to what series you are working on.

The Real Secret

I was watching Oprah one day with my wife and I heard about a book that came out called The Secret last spring. It concerned me because it was humanism repackaged and I heard Christians talking about it and they were confused. Last February, Time magazine said that The Secret could be the fastest-selling book of its kind in the history of publishing with 1.75 million copies projected to be in print by March 2, just over three months since it came out, plus 1.5 million DVDs sold." The film became a publishing phenomenon in 2007—helped by being featured on two episodes of Oprah —and reached number one on the Amazon DVD chart in March 2007. A book version, also called The Secret reached number one on The New York Times bestseller list. For much of February through April both the book and DVD versions were #1 or #2 at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Borders. The book's publisher, Simon & Schuster, did a second printing of 2 million — "the biggest order for a second printing in its history". Time reports brisk sales of the DVD through New Age bookstores, and New Thought churches, such as Unity, Religious Science and Agape International Spiritual Center.

So I am doing a series to answer in a very careful way the questions that The Secret has raised. Here's my blurb and format.

September '07 Series - "The Real Secret"

Over two thousand years ago a secret was revealed to the world for the very first time. There were those who tried to hide it; to keep it from being known, but the secret kept spreading. Some tried to kill it; to bury it away, but it could not be contained. The secret was out and the powers that came with it spread all over the world. Today millions live by it, but there are still millions more who don't know its power. In this series, you will discover the Real Secret and its power to change your life and your future.

"Get In..." - The Series

We are on our third week of a series called, "Get In..." It's about "getting in" to what God is "in to." So many times we want God to get into what we are interested in. The Spirit of God is a living, moving force at work in the earth today. He wants us to be a part of what He is doing but we have to “Get In”. “Get In...The Flow”: Jesus had a “flow” when relating to people and He wants us to “flow" like He did. “Get In...The Current”: God’s “current” is guiding the church in one direction towards becoming more like Him. “Get In...The Water”: Through water baptism we identify with Christ’s burial and resurrection. This experience will change your perspective forever. He wants us to experience Him in every level of our life - in relationships, in our church body and in our personal walk with Him. Are you ready to “Get In”?
