This will be our third Easter. I love Easter. It's one of the best Sunday's all year. We are keeping it simple with a regular service except for the flowering of the cross and communion. We don't do anything different for our first time guest than what we usually do. We just love people at Easter and share a message on the resurrection. Everything we believe hinges on the resurrection.
What do you do for Easter? Any traditions?

What are you doing for Easter?

Our first Easter was incredible. Very cool to have so many families who have made us their home invite their friends. We had communion in a very intimate way and finding it a non-negotiable for us weekly. I'm interested to hear what flowering the cross means. Also, any creative and meaningful suggestions to communion are welcome.
We also did the egg drop invented by Elevation Church last year. Dropping thousands of eggs out of the sky from a helicopter bought us enough time to connect with relationally with our new folks.
This is what we advertise:
Communion and the Flowering of the Cross
Join us for this moving experience as the cross is covered with beautiful flowers - symbolizing our rememberence of His death, our gratitude for His life, and beauty that has resulted from His sacrifice.
We describe the tradition this way: He gives beauty for ashes. He takes something that was so ugly and turns it into something beautiful.
The cross has two props on the the arms and stand from the platform to the floor and we put a spot light on it. Chicken wire is wrap around the cross to provide a place for th e flowers to be placed in by the people. Our ushers lead people row by row around and down the isle and they place a flower on the cross with their family. Then they pick up their communion and go back to their seat or find a place to take communion together.
Background: I don't know where my dad actually got this tradition (even though his memory always says he made it up - possibly, but I'm not sure. He thinks he makes everything up. smile!). My brothers and I grew up doing this ever since I could remember every Easter. It's pretty cool. We usually have special music or you can play cool songs with a power point slide show of crosses and so forth.
